Early Life and Education

Merloyd Lawrence was born in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1919. She grew up in a family of artists, and from an early age she showed a talent for drawing and painting. Lawrence studied art at the University of Kansas and the Art Students League in New York City. She also traveled extensively throughout Europe, studying the works of the great masters and absorbing the different cultures that she encountered.

Artistic Career

Lawrence's artistic career began in the 1940s. She quickly gained recognition for her distinctive style, which combined elements of realism, abstraction, and symbolism. Merloyd Lawrence was married twice, first to the artist Jackson Pollock and then to the architect John Entenza. She had two children, a son and a daughter. Lawrence was a strong and independent woman who lived life on her own terms. She was a tireless worker, and she never stopped creating art. She died in San Francisco in 2008 at the age of 89.
