Hand of Mars is a science fiction novel by David Weber, first published in 2002. The novel is set in the Honorverse universe, and follows the story of a young woman named Honor Harrington, who is a starship mage. Starship mages are able to use their minds to control the ship's systems, and they are essential to the operation of the Honorverse's interstellar fleet.

Plot

The novel begins with Honor Harrington being assigned to the destroyer HMS Fearless. The Fearless is sent to the planet Grayson to investigate a series of attacks on merchant ships. Honor and her crew soon discover that the attacks are being carried out by a group of pirates led by a man named Marius. Marius is a ruthless and ambitious pirate, and he is determined to take control of the Grayson system.

Honor and her crew must find a way to defeat Marius and his pirates. They are outnumbered and outgunned, but they are also more skilled and determined. Honor uses her starship mage abilities to give the Fearless an edge in battle, and she and her crew are able to defeat the pirates.

After the battle, Honor is promoted to captain and given command of the cruiser HMS Warspite. The Warspite is sent to the planet Manticore, where Honor is reunited with her friends and family. Honor is a hero to the people of Manticore, and she is celebrated for her victory over the pirates.
