In the midst of the global pandemic that has swept the world, I embarked on a solitary journey to Egypt, a land steeped in ancient history and enigmatic beauty. For forty days, I immersed myself in the vibrant culture, breathtaking landscapes, and profound spiritual energy of this extraordinary country. This is the story of my transformative experience, a pilgrimage through time and space that left an indelible mark on my soul.

Day 1: Arrival in Cairo

As I stepped off the plane at Cairo International Airport, I was greeted by a cacophony of sounds and sights that seemed both familiar and utterly foreign. The air was thick with humidity and the streets were a chaotic ballet of cars, buses, and pedestrians. I made my way to my hotel, a modest establishment in the heart of downtown Cairo. As I settled into my room, I felt a strange sense of anticipation mingled with trepidation. I had no set itinerary, no guide, and only a vague idea of what to expect.

Day 2: Exploring the Khan el-Khalili Bazaar

On my second day, I ventured out into the labyrinthine alleys of the Khan el-Khalili Bazaar, one of the oldest and most famous souks in the world. Amidst the vibrant stalls selling everything from spices to souvenirs, I felt transported to another time. The air was heavy with the scent of incense and the sound of vendors hawking their wares. I wandered through the maze-like streets, marveling at the intricate craftsmanship of the goods on display.

Day 3: Visiting the Pyramids of Giza

No trip to Egypt would be complete without a visit to the iconic Pyramids of Giza. As I stood before these colossal structures, I felt a profound sense of awe and wonder. The sheer size and scale of the pyramids defied comprehension, and I couldn't help but marvel at the ingenuity and skill of the ancient Egyptians who built them.

Day 4: Cruising the Nile River

From Cairo, I boarded a cruise ship that took me up the River Nile towards Luxor. As we sailed along the tranquil waters, I watched as the lush green banks gave way to barren desert landscapes. I spent my days relaxing on the sundeck, soaking up the sun and enjoying the breathtaking views.

Day 5: Exploring the Valley of the Kings

Disembarking at Luxor, I visited the Valley of the Kings, the burial ground of ancient pharaohs. I descended into the tomb of Tutankhamun, marveling at the exquisite treasures that were discovered here. The walls were adorned with intricate hieroglyphics and the air was filled with a sense of history and mystery.

Day 6: Visiting the Karnak Temple Complex

The Karnak Temple Complex is one of the largest and most impressive ancient religious sites in the world. I spent hours exploring its vast courtyards, towering pylons, and enigmatic statues. I felt a deep connection to the ancient Egyptians as I walked among the ruins, imagining the rituals and ceremonies that once took place here.

Day 7: Hot Air Balloon Ride over Luxor

On my last day in Luxor, I took a hot air balloon ride over the city. As the sun rose, I floated above the sprawling Nile Valley, with the pyramids of Giza in the distance. It was a breathtaking experience that gave me a unique perspective on the ancient landscape.

Day 8: Traveling to Aswan

From Luxor, I took a train to Aswan, the southernmost city in Egypt. Aswan is known for its stunning scenery and its proximity to the Abu Simbel temples.

Day 9: Visiting the Abu Simbel Temples

The Abu Simbel temples are two massive rock-cut temples built by Ramses II. They are located in a remote desert region, about 300 kilometers south of Aswan. I took a half-day tour to visit the temples and was amazed by their colossal size and intricate carvings.

Day 10: Felucca Ride on the Nile River

In the afternoon, I took a felucca ride on the Nile River. As we sailed along the tranquil waters, I watched the sun set over the desert landscape. It was a perfect way to end my time in Aswan.

Day 11: Return to Cairo

After ten days in Upper Egypt, I returned to Cairo. I spent the next few days exploring the city's many museums and historical sites. I visited the Egyptian Museum, which houses a vast collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts. I also explored the Coptic Cairo district, where I visited several ancient churches and monasteries.

Day 12: Visiting the Hanging Church

The Hanging Church is one of the most famous Coptic churches in Cairo. It is said to have been built in the 8th century and is known for its unique architectural style. The church is suspended above a Roman gate, which gives it the appearance of hanging in the air.

Day 13: Walking through the Old City

I spent my last day in Cairo walking through the Old City. I wandered through the narrow streets, admiring the beautiful Islamic architecture. I also visited the Khan al-Khalili Bazaar, where I bought some souvenirs to take home.

Day 14: Departure from Cairo

As I boarded my flight back home, I couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for the incredible experience I had had in Egypt. Forty days had passed in the blink of an eye, and I had returned home a changed person. My journey through this ancient land had opened my eyes to new cultures, new perspectives, and a deeper understanding of the human experience.

My forty days in Egypt in the time of Corona was a transformative journey that will stay with me for a lifetime. It was a time of discovery, reflection, and spiritual growth. I am grateful for the opportunity to have experienced this extraordinary country and its people, and I encourage others to embark on their own adventures to discover the wonders that the world has to offer.
